Hi there! My name is Jamie Maguire, from Foundation Personalized Fitness, a private personal training studio in Austin, TX. If you’re looking for individualized, one-on-one personal training in the North Austin, Cedar Park, Leander area then look no further!
Whether you’re trying to do something about joint and muscle pain, recover from or avoid surgery, lose weight, or simply just get stronger, Foundation Personalized Fitness is the place to go.
All kidding aside, for a lot of people, starting a new workout routine can be intimidating, and maybe even terrifying. Everyone experiences some degree of uncertainty and trepidation when attempting something new or something they know very little about.
For all the knowledge I have about proper form, movement systems, lifting mechanics, and eliminating pain and muscle tension, the most valuable thing of all is being able to understand and appreciate the emotional and psychological factors that many people experience when first beginning a new routine. Educating my clients about lifting and proper movement patterns is just as important as making sure they feel comfortable, and maybe even are having some fun!
Not everyone who exercises is doing it so they can run a race, or carry a giant log up a hill, or bear crawl through mud while dragging a tire behind them. I know this because about halfway through this race I thought to myself, why am I doing this?! This is awful! I’m kidding. It was fun. To be done.
A lot of people just want to feel better and move better. They want to be stronger, and get rid of the chronic pain in their back, or their knee, or their hip. Am I able to teach you how to front rack, or properly execute a clean? Of course. But whether you want to learn how to do a clean or you’re just interested in getting stronger and having a better understanding of proper movement, both of these endeavors start in the same place. With examining your movement patterns and addressing tight muscles that are limiting your range of motion and most likely causing you pain.
There’s a lot of information out there, some good, some not so good. Like with anything, it’s important to think critically and consider the source. If something seems too good to be true then it probably is.
There is no magic pill when it comes to exercise and fitness. No magic fat burning tea, or muscle creating powder. If there was everyone would be taking it, we would all be super healthy and fit, and the person who created it would be a world famous gazillionaire.
It may be a strange concept to consider, but exercise is an adaptation to the mostly sedentary world that we live in. We want to have the strength and fitness abilities of someone who is active, but for most of us our jobs are sitting all day in front of a computer. So we adapt and we exercise and we stay strong, because going through life weak and in pain is no fun.
